The Soviets invade the United States’ Jamestown moonbase and two American astronauts, Gordo ( Michael Dorman) and Tracy Stevens ( Sarah Jones) die while preventing a Cherynobly type of disaster on the moon. Both the United States and the USSR have built moonbases and their relationship continues to be as cold as space. Season 2 of For All Mankind jumps ahead to 1983. He travels backward through time and brings about a Union victory at the Battle of Gettysburg. To get the country energized about space again, NASA develops a female astronaut training program, including minorities. Documentary which maintains that the real pioneers of space exploration were the Soviet cosmonauts, telling the story of how the Russians led us into the space age.
The first season examines the defeated morale of NASA and the United States. The premise of the series asks what would happen if the United States hadn’t landed on the moon first, Russia did.
